Whangamata Kindergarten

A functional and stimulating environment for our future leaders. Clever use of natural materials including Gabion Stone Walls, Natural Timber and corrugated Zincalume combine to create a beautiful but robust building. Lots of different interesting spaces for the children and their activities.

Judges comments: 'This is a refreshingly modest and unpretentious approach to a building type that is of great importance to local communities. The designers have made an excellent covered outdoor space linking seamlessly to the interior and exterior of the building. Planning solution is also refreshingly simple with all the room spaces stacked along the back wall and a generous activity area fronting towards the covered patio and lawn.'
