Obsidian Harbour | Diana Blake Design, Architect

ProjectsOBSIDIAN HARBOUR

Challenging the status quo of demolishing & building new this renovation recognises the value of retaining & preserving.

Original two level bach constructed by our client’s father in 1978 was unconnected to the Pohutukawa lined Whangamata harbour front.

Relocating the Kitchen & Dining to the lower level with large retracting glass sliders & a new northern Living & Entrance wing juxomposed between existing levels provide vital connection.

New Cedar vertical cladding intermixed with natural plaster render to the original clinker bricks modernises the exterior while retaining as much of the original materials as possible.

Interplay of different interior timbers including cedar, oak & bamboo pendants create a calmness to the interior.
